PUTRAJAYA,  July 9 -- The launch of the three-month-long Rukun Negara Golden Jubilee celebration was held in the full spirit of unity and patriotism despite the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) still in force to curb the spread of COVID-19 in the country.

It was graced by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin at the Perdana Putra Building here.

The Rukun Negara Golden Jubilee celebration is organised in conjunction with the National Day and Malaysia Day celebration this year.

The launch event began with the special address by Muhyiddin, in which he touched on the important aspect of unity among the people regardless of their race, religion, culture and belief.

The Prime Minister then joined the Minister of Communications and Multimedia Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah, Minister of National Unity Datuk Halimah Mohamed Sadique, six schoolchildren and seven university students representing Rukun Negara clubs and secretariats in reciting the pledge of Rukun Negara.

The highlight of the event was the launch of the official logo of the Rukun Negara Golden Jubilee celebration, which was created through the cooperation between the Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama), Information Department, and Karangkraf Media Group.

Projected onto a screen in 3D animation, the logo is a stylised five-stripe red and white tengkolok (Malay headgear), with the yellow crescent and star affixed on its front and enclosed within the figure 50 in blue.

The crescent and star represent the Rukun Negara principle of Belief in God, while the tengkolok with the crescent and star symbolises Loyalty to King and Country; Supremacy of the Constitution; and Rule of Law.

The number 50 marks the golden jubilee of Rukun Negara and the blue colour symbolises the practice of unity and the principle of Courtesy and Morality.

Also launched was the special stamp, with the theme of Lima Puluh Tahun or 50 Years, in five designs, each featuring one of the five principles of Rukun Negara, the Rukun Negara logo and the national flower, the Bunga Raya (Hibiscus).

The Prime Minister then proceeded to visit the Rukun Negara exhibition gallery featuring materials and historical pictures relating to the drafting the national philosophy.

To enliven the event, Sarawak-born singer Dayang Nurfaizah and Roy, who has always been known for singing patriotic songs, performed the Rukun Negara song composed by Datuk Mokzani Ismail, followed by  Datuk Syafinaz Selamat and two new singers Afieq and Wani, who performed the Lima Prinsip Rukun Negara song composed by Datuk Wah Idris.

Numerous activities and programmes have been lined up for the Golden Jubilee celebration co-organised by the Ministry of Communications and Multimedia and the Ministry of National Unity starting today until Sept 16.

Among the activities are Insta Challenge, Rukun Negara Hour, Webinar, e-Treasure Hunt, Nationhood Ted Talk, Series of Talks, Documentary, and Bicycleton.
