KUALA LUMPUR, July 9 -- Country's historical and significant events would be more appealing if it is immortalised in postage-stamp form that could be kept as a memento for future generations.

To commemorate the formation of Rukun Negara, Pos Malaysia Berhad (Pos Malaysia) is issuing a special series of stamps featuring the national philosophy which has become the essence and foundation of unity in the country.

Themed "Lima Puluh Tahun" (Fifty Years), the special commemorative stamps will be launched by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin during the 50th anniversary celebration of Rukun Negara at the Putra Perdana Building in Putrajaya today.

Besides showcasing the elements and principles of Rukun Negara, the stamps will also feature the 50th anniversary of Rukun Negara logo as well as the Bunga Raya (hibiscus).

A miniature sheet for the stamp series will also be issued, featuring Malaysia map, the five principles of Rukun Negara, as well as its 50th anniversary logo in gold colour to mark the golden jubilee celebration of the national philosophy.

Pos Malaysia Group chief executive officer Syed Md Najib Sy Md Noor said the stamp series which will be made available on Aug 18, will come in five different designs, each featuring one of the five principles of Rukun Negara, the 50th anniversary logo and the Bunga Raya.

“The Bunga Raya is highlighted due to its status as the national flower and the five petals of the flower represent the five principles of Rukun Negara.

“As a whole, the designs are made based on the modern contemporary concept, using vibrant and fresh colours to increase the stamps aesthetic values and make them more attractive especially to the youger generation,” he told Bernama.

The stamp series set which is limited to 250,000 for each design will be sold at 60 sen each while the miniature sheets are available at RM5 each.

“Stamps lovers can also get a special folder to complete their Rukun Negara’s 50th anniversary special edition stamp collection.

“However, Pos Malaysia is planning to publish only a limited quantity of 3,000 folder sets for this series,” he added.
