Muhyiddin to launch National Month, fly the Jalur Gemilang campaign

KUALA LUMPUR, July 28 -- Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin is scheduled to launch the 2020 National Month and Fly the Jalur Gemilang campaign at Dataran Perdana, Bangugan Perdana Putra in Putrajaya this morning.

Upon arrival, a prayer will be recited before Muhyiddin delivers his message in conjunction with the launch, followed by the raising of the Jalur Gemilang and singing of Negaraku, which will be accompanied by the Malaysian Armed Forces band.

Then, a performance of the Malaysia Prihatin theme song by the Pentarama group from the Information Department will be held.

The Prime Minister will then flag off the Merdeka Info On Wheels (IOW) expedition, which is a programme aimed at injecting the spirit of patriotism among Malaysians of all walks of life, presenting statehood messages, encouraging the people to fly the Jalur Gemilang as well as being part of the 2020 National Month and Fly the Jalur Gemilang campaign.

The function will also be attended by Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah, as the chairman of the main committee of the 2020 National Day and Malaysia Day celebrations.

Other than Putrajaya, similar programmes will also be held at state-level, with the launch ceremonies being officiated by the respective Menteri Besar and Chief Ministers of Perak, Johor, Selangor, Kelantan, Sabah, Pahang, Penang, Kedah, Sarawak, Terengganu, Negeri Sembilan, Johor, Melaka and Perlis.

The National Month celebration this year is being held on a modest scale following the COVID-19 pandemic. As such, there will be no parades held this time.

Other than that, two more major events are set to be held - the National Day celebration in Kuala Lumpur on Aug 31 and the Malaysia Day celebration in Sibu, Sarawak on Sept 16.

There is also the ongoing Rukun Negara 50th anniversary celebration, which began on July 9.
