BANGKOK, Aug 17 – Malaysians residing in Bangkok today joined the Merdeka Fun Ride 2020 to demonstrate their love for the country in conjunction with National Day celebrations.

With the Jalur Gemilang attached to their bikes, about 60 embassy staff and their family members as well as the Malaysian diaspora in Bangkok participated in the ride at the Happy and Healthy Bike Lane at Suvarnabhumi Airport.

Malaysian Ambassador to Thailand Datuk Jojie Samuel and director-general of the Department of East Asian Affairs of Thailand’s Foreign Ministry, Arjaree Sriratanaban, flagged-off the participants.

Jojie said the inaugural Merdeka Fun Ride organised by the embassy was aimed at injecting the spirit of patriotism and love for the country among Malaysians, especially the younger generation.

“We also hope that through this programme, we can inculcate the spirit of togetherness and unity among all Malaysians residing here,” he told Bernama.

He said the programme was also aimed at having Malaysians understand and appreciate the true meaning of independence, as well as to respect the sacrifices made by those who helped achieve it.
