KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 19 -- Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) today launched a campaign known as "Hayati Rukun Negara dan Semarak Merdeka 2020" in its bid to enliven the National Day celebration this year.
A number of programmes have been drawn up by the university including intellectual discourse, public speaking competition, essay writing contest as well as quiz.
UPM vice-chancellor Prof Dr Mohd Roslan Sulaiman said the university through its Corporate Strategy and Communications office, in collaboration with the Higher Education Leadership Academy would also be organising two series of talks on statehood issues aimed at instilling appreciation of Rukun Negara among the society.
The programme will be held on Sept 4 and 11, at Dewan Za’ba at the Higher Education Ministry in Putrajaya.
“This is in line with the theme for this year's National Day and Malaysia Day which is 'Malaysia Prihatin' (Malaysia Cares).
“The spirit of Malaysia Prihatin emphasises the importance of unity, especially when our country is facing a crisis. Community cooperation, especially between students and university staff is important in facing the threat of COVID-19," he said in a statement today.
Meanwhile, Mohd Roslan who was appointed as the ninth vice-chancellor of UPM effective Sept 1, expressed his gratitude to Higher Education Minister Datuk Dr Noraini Ahmad for the trust placed in him.
