Waving the Jalur Gemilang should be our culture

SEMPORNA, Aug 24 -- The practice of waving the Jalur Gemilang should have already been a culture in the lives of the people given the country’s 63 years of independence.

Semporna district officer, Benedict Asmat said the people did not have to wait for the National Month celebration programme or fly the Jalur Gemilang promotion campaign to do so.

"Jalur Gemilang is a symbol of national sovereignty and independence, waving the Malaysian flag will directly invite the people around (us) to embrace independence," he said when launching the Semporna district level 2020 merdeka programme @ community and the wave the Jalur Gemilang campaign here today.

He also suggested that all parties enliven the national month celebration by putting up the Jalur Gemilang in their respective homes, office buildings, business premises as well as on vehicles.

In the meantime, he said the district office was ready to assist the Information Department to implement the National Month programme.

Sabah Information department director, Norzawiyah Bulka said numerous programmes had been held during the national month to bolster further the spirit of patriotism among the people, including programmes implemented online.

"We expect active participation from the community to empower the National Month, it is not easy for us to instill the spirit of patriotism but we implement a prudent approach.

"For example, we deliver information through the Malaysiaku club in schools and we hope the students involved will share information with their friends," she said.

Among the programmes implemented online include the nationhood oratory competition, nationhood storytelling competition and independence photography competition.
