KUANTAN, Aug 24 -- The people in Pahang were today reminded to always abide by the principles of the Rukun Negara.
Pahang Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail said the spirit of Rukun Negara should be expressed all the more this year in conjunction with its 50th anniversary.
As such, he called on the people especially building owners and business premises to fly the Jalur Gemilang to demonstrate their love for the country.
"Indeed, the main objective of the National Day celebration is to ensure that the spirit of patriotism and love for the nation continue to flourish and become the practice of all Malaysians," he said in his winding-up speech at the one-day State Legislative Assembly sitting here today.
Wan Rosdy also described the theme for this year’s National Day Celebration, 'Malaysia Prihatin' (Malaysia Cares) reflects the people’s conviction in fighting against the COVID-19 pandemic as well as the Federal and state governments’ seriousness in assisting those affected by the pandemic.
In his speech, Wan Rosdy also expressed his appreciation to the 8,000 frontline workers in Pahang who had worked hard to curb the spread of COVID-19 since the first case was detected in Bentong on March 12.
He said a total of 32,237 people had undergone screenings in Pahang and of that number, 370 people or only 1.15 per cent had been confirmed positive with 363 or 98.1 per cent of them now recovered.
"The last COVID-19 positive case recorded in Pahang was on July 26, involving a Malaysian who was screened before surgery at the hospital, and this patient has also recovered," he said.
