KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 25 -- Starting today, those visiting the National Library (PNM) will get the chance to learn and appreciate the principles of Rukun Negara through promotional materials provided by the Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama).

The event being held at PNM, in conjunction with the Roadshow (Jerayawara) to enliven the Rukun Negara 50th anniversary celebration, which is into its second day today, was quite lively despite having to comply with the set standard operating procedures (SOP) to curb COVID-19.

PNM senior deputy director Ali Rashid said apart from catering to its visitors, the library is also collaborating with Bernama to extend the roadshow to 507 village libraries nationwide.

"This is a the right time to enliven the Rukun Negara spirit especially among the younger generation.

"A programme such as this should be held regularly to nurture the spirit of patriotism and love for the country," he said after receiving promotional materials from Bernama Rukun Negara 50th Anniversary Celebration project head Roslan Ariffin.

Roslan, in his speech, said the roadshow series which will end on Sept 15, is important as it serves to re-introduce and remind the principles of Rukun Negara to the public, especially the new generation.

The Bernama TV Broadcasting and Radio head said PNM  is among 26 locations which had been selected for the tour.

Libraries, he said, play a major role in promoting good values which are found in the Rukun Negara.

"Yesterday, we went to the Kuala Lumpur Library and the University Malaya Library, and this weekend we will be heading north. It is hoped that (the roadshow) will be able to enliven the National Day celebration and strengthen the people’s appreciation of the Rukun Negara," he said.

Apart from that, the roadshow is also an opportunity for Bernama to promote and organise various activities related to Rukun Negara and encourage participation in related programmes also organised by  departments under the Ministry of Communication and Multimedia and the Ministry of National Unity.

Among activities organised by Bernama are Insta Challenge, Rukun Negara Hour, Webinar on every Wednesday, e-Treasure Hunt (Aug 30), talk show series, documentaries, 50km virtual bicyleton and others.
