KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 26 -- Employees of Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) must put the five principles of Rukun Negara into practice, said its deputy editor-in-chief Abdul Rahman Ahmad.
He said that the five principles of the Rukun Negara – Belief in God; Loyalty to King and Country; Supremacy of the Constitution; Rule of Law; and Courtesy and Morality – are important to put into practice as they are the keys to unity and harmony between races.
“The spirit of patriotism in Bernama employees is already there, but we also want them to put the five principles of Rukun Negara into practice, then we will succeed, prosperous and be united.
“Don’t forget that we work together with other races so it is important to cultivate and further strengthen the unity among us,” he said after the Bernama-level National Day celebration here, today.
For this year, the National Day is celebrated with a slight twist by complying with the standard operating procedures (SOPs) to curb the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The event, which was attended by about 50 employees, was a lively affair, further boosting the spirit of patriotism among Bernama staff.
“It does not matter how we celebrate this historic event, what is important is that the spirit (of patriotism) must be in each of us,” he said.
