Inculcate better understanding of Rukun Negara - Legasi

PUTRAJAYA, Aug 27 --  The matter of unity, which is harmony within the society, and the 50th anniversary of the Rukun Negara, is very important in inculcating better understanding of the five principles of the national philosophy among the people, said Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi Legacy Organisation (Legasi) chairman Datuk Jefridin Atan.

"Rukun Negara is not only to be read out but also to be appreciated. The five principles of Rukun Negara become the basis to our unity as a multiracial society and it is an advantage in building the country and nation.

"If the country is not peaceful, we will not grow in term of economy and in any form of development carried out by the government," he said during the "Kemerdekaan dan Aspirasi Belia 2020" (Independence and Youth Aspiration 2020) Forum here today.

Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican, who launched the forum, said in his speech that the elements of patriotism and self-identity should never be sidelined by the youths in planning the future of the nation for the next decade.
