KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 30  -- A total of 163 Malaysians, including from abroad, went on a virtual tour of the country for several hours today as they participated in the Rukun Negara Golden Jubilee e-Treasure Hunt 2020.

The participants, all joining the hunt from their homes, offices, or elsewhere, were taken on a tour from state to state, beginning with Perlis and ending in Sabah, as they answered questions based on the Rukun Negara, tourism and signboards.

They were also taken virtually to the federal territories of Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Labuan.

The e-treasure hunt was organised by the Malaysian National News Agency, BERNAMA, as one of the activities of the ongoing Rukun Negara 50th anniversary celebration, in conjunction with National Day and Malaysia Day, organised by the Ministry of Communications and Multimedia and the Ministry of National Unity.

Bernama Deputy Editor-in-Chief (Business and Finance) Khaidzir Md Yunus officiated at the start of the e-treasure hunt at the secretariat set up on the 12th floor of Wisma Bernama here. Also present were Head of the Editorial Command Centre, M. Govind Nair, who is chairman of the e-Treasure Hunt Organising Committee, and other committee members.

The participants, who comprised Malaysians of all races from the country and abroad, were given five hours, from 9 am to 2 pm, to complete the e-treasure hunt which carries a total of 150 points.

Besides answering 30 objective questions on the Rukun Negara and tourism, they also had to find the answers to 20 subjective questions based on signboards along stretches of roads around the country, and stand the chance of winning the grand prize of RM2,050.00 or any of over 50 cash prizes.

They also had to upload five photographs of themselves or selfies with the background reflecting each of the five principles of the Rukun Negara, as well as a photograph or selfie of them at their work station participating in the e-treasure hunt.

The answers for all the questions were uploaded onto the e-treasure hunt website after the end of the hunt.

The winners will be announced on Malaysia Day on Sept 16.
